Piece by Piece invitations

At Bride magazine we are always excited by unique wedding invitation ideas. Piece By Piece Invitations, the brainchild of Melbourne’s Kirsty Richardson, are a beautiful example of how your invitations can be personalised, whilst providing some fun for your guests.

The invitations are printed on puzzle pieces that can be brought to your wedding by guests and joined together, piece by piece, to reveal a special mystery photograph of your choice. For her own wedding, founder Kirsty chose this adorable photo in front of a tram stop, where she first met her husband.

Thank you cards go a long way

Having dedicated a great deal of time to finding you the perfect wedding gift, your guests will be eager to find out whether you received it and how you feel about it. Let them know how grateful you are for their attendance on the day and the gift they left you, with a thank you card.

When your wedding day wraps up, your honeymoon will quickly become all you can think about. If you have a couple of weeks between your wedding day and your honeymoon getaway, you might as well write your thank you notes while all the present details are fresh in your mind. Get onto writing your thank you cards before your honeymoon preparation takes over you completely.

Keep a pen handy when you open your presents and take down the details of each present to keep track of who gives you what. It might be a good idea for one of you to open while the other records. Take turns swapping tasks so you can both share in the delight of unwrapping exciting items.

It’s highly likely that things will get mixed up in the move from the reception venue to your house, so it might be a good idea to make a miscellaneous pile for any loose cards and any unlabelled presents. If you are having trouble matching cards up with presents, you can always phone the people whose names are on these cards and politely explain your concerns. You friends will always understand the mix up if you let them know, but might not be so forgiving when their gift receives no acknowledgement without an explanation. Similarly, they wouldn’t be all that pleased if someone else were to take the credit for their hard work!

Choosing the right card design

Some couples re-approach their invitation designer to match their thank you cards up with their wedding theme, while others choose to create their own cards using a whole new theme altogether. A recent look that the Bride team loved, were a range of specially designed vintage-style postcards featuring photos of the couple’s honeymoon destinations.  A large majority of newlyweds opt to handwrite rather than print the text on their cards, so as to convey a more personal and genuine thank you message to their guests.

Fun with thank you cards

Writing thank you cards doesn’t have to be laborious. You can have a lot of fun piecing together your sentiments for your guests. More and more, couples are slipping a wedding photo in with the card to provide the guest with a pictorial memory of their big day. A photo could feature on the front cover of the card or it might be fixed to the inside jacket. You might choose to pop it into a cardboard sleeve or just slot it loosely into the envelope for the guest to frame at a later date. Professional photos of individual guests are great if you have any. Otherwise, a whole wedding group shot is a good option, as is a portrait of the newlyweds before, after or during the wedding.

A final piece of advice

Don’t throw out your address list once you’ve sent out your invitations, as you’ll need all the details again for your thank you notes!

Stationery style

There’s more to your wedding stationery than the invitation. Your stationery suite can include save-the-date cards, RSVP cards, gift registry cards, ceremony program, place cards and more.

Your wedding stationery should reflect your wedding theme in some way. You may choose to mirror the colour palette you have chosen for your wedding or decide to use a favourite motif.

Just remember that you can use your wedding stationery to tie together many of the elements of your wedding including the flowers, finishing touches and decorations.

If you’re having a modern wedding, opt for a modern invitation with a sleek or minimal design to portray that feeling. If you’re planning something with a vintage twist incorporate lace or dusty colours into your stationery.

The choices in wedding invitation designs are endless, so don’t be afraid to be creative. Select from a range of glossy papers and translucent overlays decorated with anything from ribbons, flowers, diamantes, pearls, embossing or even hand-drawn pictures to represent the exact type of wedding invitation you want.

For those struggling to come up with ideas on the type of design they would like for their wedding invitations keep it simple. A good place to start is to first choose the size of the invitation, then things like colour and decorations can come later. Or look to the flowers you have chosen, a pattern detail on your wedding gown or a family heirloom.

2012 Logies red carpet!

Last night Australia’s biggest stars congregated for the annual Logies awards, which took place at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne.

There was an eclectic mix of gowns this year, with a noticeable trend towards sequins and sleek slim lines, fishtail hems and classic, but contemporary silhouettes.

Australian designers dominated the red carpet, with J’Aton dressing Offspring co-stars Asher Keddie and Kat Stewart; Alex Perry gowns adorned both Michelle Bridges and Megan Gale; and Jennifer Hawkins was dressed in a beautiful Toni Maticevski creation.

There were some fabulous frocks on the red carpet and once again the Bride team have picked their favourites of the night!

With Vera Wang’s 2013 spring bridal collection recently revealed, we couldn’t help but make a comparison between her new bold range and Carrie Bickmore’s gorgeous red Bowie gown. Wang’s latest collection comprises of ravishing reds and burgundys, which is just as daring as her last collection that brimmed with heavy black gowns. Channel 10 Breakfast weather presenter Magdalena Roze’s breathtaking sequined black Ae’lkemi gown channeled Wang’s previous bridal collection.
