A couple of chocoholics

Do you and your partner love to indulge in a square or two of creamy chocolate after a healthy home-cooked meal or a late night out on the town? Perhaps you’ve been known to polish off an entire block between you on a special occasion or two. Whether you and your fiancé are diehard chocoholics or you fancy yourselves as chocolate connoisseurs, consider including a dessert bar at your wedding to showcase your love of the delectable treat. Weddings are, after all, about sharing, enjoying and indulging in everything you love. Include anything you like in your chocolate display. For dessert bars, think macaroons, petit fours, cupcakes, cake pops, chocolate dipped strawberries, truffles, and fruit with chocolate fondue. Fill out lolly bars with individual chocolates like Fererro Rochers, Lindt balls, licorice bullets, freckles, M&ms, Smarties, pods, Clinkers and anything else you can think of. Keep things simple with a chocolate flavoured wedding cake if you’re seek a more subtle effect.

Dreaming of a destination wedding? Well take a look at this gorgeous wedding in the picturesque setting of Santorini.

Amanda and Jake booked the entire Lefkes Village Hotel for five days to accommodate their cosmopolitan guest list, with friends and relatives joining them from all over the world.

Amanda chose not to have any bridesmaids in respect of her new family’s orthodox beliefs. “In the orthodox faith, bridesmaids should also be Greek Orthodox and my closest friends weren’t, so I decided to fly solo,” she says.

The groomsmen, however, had a significant impact. “According to custom, while the groom dresses, the groomsmen ‘pinch’ him with a needle to make him realise the life-long decision he is making and that the time is almost near,” the bride says.

The wedding was held at the Saint Trinity Church on a hill overlooking the sparkling waters of the Aegean sea. In Greece, the groom and guests wait outside to greet the bride. The priest then walks the couple down the aisle with the guests following.  “Everyone was clapping and cheering as I walked up the steps of the church to my future husband,” the bride says.

The church was decorated with pots of basil for good luck and fortune. The wedding ceremony was held in the ancient language of the Greek Bible, which created a beautiful ambience for their Greek Island wedding.

After the ceremony, guests were offered hand-decorated, tiny sweet pies, so the life of the new couple would be sweet and lovely, and a strong local drink called Souma.

Adorned with flowers, candles and ribbons, the wedding reception took place around the hotel pool. The decorations were brought in from Thessaloniki and the hotel was decorated by the bride’s family.

Guests enjoyed traditional Paros wedding food and delicious wine from local wineries while lapping up the luxurious surrounds of the small isle. The final touch was the bomboniere – boxes of white sugared almonds wrapped in light-brown ribbon with a blue bead – a local custom to protect the couple from the ‘evil eye’.

Bali bliss

All this cold weather of late has incited complete wanderlust from the Bride team, and it’s got us dreaming about destination weddings!

If you’ve decided to get married in the months of June, July or August, but can’t stand the idea of tying the know in the freezing weather, why not head to a tropical destination like this real-life wedding couple did.

Jacqueline and Todd decided Bali, a favourite holiday destination, would be a fantastic wedding location. “The idea of having our wedding overseas perfectly suited us and once we’d decided on Bali, it was full steam ahead,” says Jacqueline.

Embracing the tranquil beach location of their destination, Jacqueline and Todd decided on a beach theme for their nuptials, and the planners from Global Weddings set about bringing the theme to life, complete with a beautiful beach resort, the Legian Beach Hotel in Seminyak.

Jacqueline’s sister, two best friends and her brother made up the bridal party, which added another unusual touch to the destination nuptials. “Of course my brother wasn’t a traditional bridesmaid, but I didn’t subscribe to the notion that because he’s male, he should be on the groom’s side,” Jacqueline says.

The night before the big day, Jacqueline and Todd enjoyed cocktails and a barbecue with their guests at the resort, which allowed them to mix and mingle.

“The best part of a destination wedding really is the time either side of the wedding because all your friends and family are there relaxing and holidaying with you,” she says.

The day of the wedding, Jacqueline looked ravishing in her summer-inspired gown and was escorted to the ceremony on the beach by eight little Balinese girls attired in traditional Balinese dresses. Following the short, non-religious ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed a spectacular candelit cocktail reception.

“The whole experience was perfect,” says Jacqueline. “The only hiccup we had was the flowers. I had asked for a simple bouquet of hydrangeas, which someone spray-painted purple! It definitely wasn’t my taste, but everyone thought it was really funny on the day and if that was all that went wrong, I consider myself one lucky bride!”

Modern love – Diba and Tim

This is the gorgeous, chic wedding of Diba and Tim. The reception was held at the Heide Museum of Modern Art: a favourite spot of the couple for romantic walks and afternoon tea, and the catering was supplied by Vue de Monde, where Tim is head baker.

The couple chose to replace the current furnishings with elegant black, white and wooden décor, featuring white flowers and greenery in mismatched vases grouped together as a centrepiece for the room. Smaller floral arrangements were scattered across tables and outdoor settings, while guests were able to take home a bouquet wrapped in pretty brown paper at the end of the night. The incredible profiterole cake was created by Vue de Monde’s pastry chef, and paired with delicate and colourful macarons.

Photographer Tom Blachford shot all the beautiful images, with the stunning gardens of the Heide as the perfect backdrop for some romantic moments captured on film. “He got it just right,” Diba says of Blachford.

Diba turned to her mother for her gown, who has been making dresses for her and her sisters as long as they can remember. The gorgeous flowing gown featured one shoulder and crystal embellishment along the neckline and waist, which the bride paired with a sexy pair of Louboutins and elegant diamond stud earrings.

Be inspired by this romantic and fresh wedding!

Country charm – Whitney and Michael Green

Whitney and Michael Green tied the knot amongst the picturesque surrounding of Mt Warning, adding a little country charm to their day.

The bride wore an elegant ivory Pronovias gown with delicate Spanish lace and a detachable train, paired with pearl-embellished flats for country practicality.

In keeping with the country surrounds, the couple wanted to keep their wedding relaxed country chic. Yellow, white and grey were worked into the decorations, with paper lanterns lining the path between barn and marquee, while a huge bonfire nearby delighted and warmed guests as night fell. Asian inspired canapés were served with noodle boxes, while a sweets buffet provided a delicious array of desserts. The newlyweds shared their first dance together, followed by a father-daughter and mother-son dance. Their gorgeous two-tier lemon mud cake was coated in white icing, and decorated by whole lemons.

Ben Vella from Shoot Everything Photography captured the magic of the day.
