The one occasion where men will wear flowers

No groom’s outfit is complete without a little something special to single him out from his guests. Traditionally, most grooms pinned a classic white or red rose to their buttonhole to complement their bride, but more and more men are now opting for distinctive boutonnieres that tie in with the wedding’s themes, décor or location. Beach weddings see groomsmen picking tropical flowers to spruce up casual attire. Gothic-style weddings bring forth boutonnieres comprised of darker colours that pay tribute to the symbolic meaning of flower varietals, while fashion-forward occasions call upon vivid colours, wild species and extravagant compositions.

The groom must agree

If he’s not sold on the idea of wearing flowers, remind him that boutonnieres can be tailor-made to suit the groom’s style – he doesn’t have to wear something girly! Most men love the idea of wearing something bespoke, because they know what they like and it makes the decision quick and simple.

Camaraderie through flowers

Supplying your groomsmen with matching boutonnieres, rather than buying them new suits, can be a cost-effective, simple way to tie them into your wedding theme. It also evokes a great sense of solidarity between mates and signposts to the rest of your guests the loved ones you’ve selected to make up your bridal party. There are very few occasions when a man will agree to wear flowers. Inviting his mates to wear boutonnieres alongside him will remove any hesitance on his part, and leave your man feeling proud and stylish alongside his friends at the alter.

Boutonnieres will usually be offered as part of your wedding flowers package, to make it easy to match them to your bridal party’s bouquets if desired. For a comprehensive list of tried and tested suppliers across Australia, visit our Bride Adviser website.

The boys in bow ties

There’s plenty of opportunity to have fun with your groom’s fashion as much as your own. Not only is it important for you to look like the best version of yourself on your wedding day, but it’s always a good look to have a stylish groom standing with you at the alter!

In this post we’re focusing on bow ties – because we think they’re stylish, sexy and fun! Your groom should always dress accordingly to the theme of the wedding. If your theme is classic and traditional, then your man dressed up in a classic tux with a bow tie can look fantastic; however, if you’re opting for something a little bit more quirky, then there are tonnes of outrageous, colourful, eye-catching looks out there for your groom-to-be.

The dapper man

If you’ve decided to go for a classic look, then you can’t go wrong with that all-black, fitted, traditional tuxedo. This look epitomises the classic style, and your man is bound to look suave and chic in a look like this. If you want to be a little left-of-centre, or have chosen to have a pastel colour palette, then an all-white dinner suit is also a great option.

Quirky colour

Not everyone wants to adhere to the traditions of a wedding day. Lots of couples like to do it their way for their big day, which makes sense, because your wedding day should be a reflection of your tastes and style. If you’re an individual with a thirst for quirky colour and interesting fashions, then why not express yourselves via your attire!

Whatever kind of groom you think you are, make sure your attire has got you written all over it! And no boys, that doesn’t mean you’re allowed to wear whatever you want – you’re still going to have to run it past the bride-to-be for her approval. :)

Dapper Dudes

Rocker Mark Ronson on his wedding day

English music producer Mark Ronson recently wed French actress and singer Joséphine de La Baume, and considering the rockstar was once named GQ magazine’s Most Stylish Man, it was no surprise that the groom’s wedding attire was a style statement. He almost stole the show in a three-piece candy-striped suit.

Mark isn’t the only model-marrying-musician to rock bold wedding attire, Jamie Hince wore a double-breasted powder blue Yves Saint Laurent suit when he married Kate Moss last month.

Paud Rudd in I Love You, Man

Though it wasn’t an actual wedding, one of my favourite groom looks was Paul Rudd as Peter Klaven in I Love You, Man. As his movie bride told him, Paul looked “awesome” in his custom-made blue suit.

If the Spring 2012 runway shows are anything to go by, coloured suits are about to be huge. Bright tailoring was seen at Bottega Veneta , Lanvin, Roberto Cavalli and many more.

Whilst candy stripes might be a bit too daring for most, we have also seen our Real-Life grooms turning away from the traditional black tux and making their own statements. Grooms in pinstripes, navy, grey and tan have been popping up in our Real-Life Weddings.

Ditching the black is not just about shaking things up, it can be a part of the overall theme and tone of the wedding. Whilst always popular for beach weddings, light-coloured suits are also great for more relaxed wedding celebrations.

Perhaps your hubby to be could make his own sartorial statement on your big day. Whatever he chooses, just make sure he doesn’t steal your thunder!

Rachael.

To ring or not to ring…

Wearing a wedding ring is a personal choice.

There are reports in today’s media that Prince William has decided not to wear a wedding ring after he ties-the-knot with Kate Middleton. To be honest, I’m not really sure what to think of this. The first thing that springs to mind is, “Why wouldn’t you want to wear a ring? Isn’t it a symbol of your marriage? A sign of respect to your wife?” But then I thought some more…

My own fiance, Josh, will go the majority of his days without wearing a ring once we’re married, as his job as a linesman (working with electrical cables and powerlines) requires no jewellery to be worn while at work as a safety requirement for both himself and his colleagues.

Other men could be allergic to jewellery while some couples may choose to honour their committment to each other in an entirely different way. Who said you had to wear a ring once you’re married? I can’t remember when this ‘rule’ was established, can you?

So I guess if Prince William doesn’t want to wear a ring, and his bride-to-be is content with his decision, who are we to question that? I am surprised, however, that Prince William, of all people, has chosen not to wear a wedding band, but at the end of the day, who says you need to wear a ring? Well, except maybe Beyonce!
