Designer dresses without the price tag
It’s no secret that every bride-to-be dreams of the perfect wedding dress. However finding that perfect dress and then finding the hefty price tag that’s attached to it can turn those dreams into a nightmare!
Most couples give themselves a budget when planning their big day, and this includes the bride with her gown. A cut-off cost can, at times, limit your choices, but there is a way for you to afford that dream dress and be the Cinderella bride you deserve to be!
Savvy Brides is a boutique bridal service in Sydney that specialises in buying and selling pre-loved, second-hand designer wedding dresses.
Established by Mandy Daddia, Savvy Brides offers a range of beautiful and affordable gowns from top Australian and international designers for brides-to-be to try on in their Double Bay studio.
To make an appointment, phone 0468 962 110 or email enquiries@savvybrides.com.au

Real-bride blog: Let me entertain you
Six months out from our wedding, with the church and venue booked, it was time to investigate the details we’d been imagining to make the wedding uniquely ours.
First on the list, the entertainment! We want to dance; we need a band. Once again, this was an aspect that I researched on the Internet. I Googled ‘wedding bands Melbourne’, which gave me mixed results as wedding band can also mean wedding rings! So I tried ‘wedding entertainers’ instead. This produced various entertainment agencies offering all kinds of bands from solo singers to 12-piece bands with four-piece horn sections! Let’s not get too excited, a four-piece band (total) would be adequate.
I was hoping for a group with a wide repertoire that could encourage our guests to the dance floor, but that could also play lighter, lounge-style tunes earlier in the night when guests are mingling and eating. I hoped for both a male and a female vocalist to provide a good variety.
All the bands I investigated online had sound bites so you could get a sample of the way they sound when they perform. I must confess that listening to them made me cringe and mutter ‘Wedding singer!’ under my breath. Except for one – Midnight Blue. We went to watch them play in Camberwell and, thankfully, they were great! In fact, they played one of my favorite party songs in their set, so I was hooked (Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough by Michael Jackson always gets me dancing!). We paid our deposit that week and ticked that item off the list!
My advice for entertainment, whether it be a DJ or a live band, is to definitely do your research! And request you see them live or hear their music before signing on the dotted line. The last thing you want is to be misconstrued and end up with a bare dance floor on your wedding night!

Spreading the news sensibly
A friend of mine was recently engaged, however sharing the news with her family and friends didn’t exactly go according to plan! Before getting a chance to call her parents, her friend had posted it on Facebook, which was soon seen by her sister, who then told her parents! As you can imagine, they were happily surprised but a little upset they hadn’t heard it from ‘the horses mouth’.
So this got me thinking about getting engaged and the best way to go about sharing the news!
Telling your family is an exciting time, and it’s always best to tell them in person. After all, this is one of the biggest times in their child’s life! But if they’re living a long distance away, interstate or overseas, a phone call will suffice. Be sure to visit his parents as soon as you’ve gone to see yours so as not to leave anyone feeling left out or neglected. As petty as it sounds, it can be a touchy subject for some!
Different circumstances, however, can make this somewhat of a difficult task. If your parents are divorced, for example, perhaps you could call them both and request they meet you for coffee or lunch so you can share your exciting news at the same time.
Telling your friends is a little less dramatic. They, more than likely, will just want to crack open a bottle of bubbly and scream with excitement! Organising a dinner party or catching up over a glass of wine is a great way to share the news!
With social media being one of the most popular ways of communicating these days, I would advise telling your closest friends and relatives before posting your announcement on Facebook or Twitter! They’d much rather hear it from you rather than the World Wide Web!
Good luck!

Happy Australia Day!
While us girls here at Bride ‘throw another shrimp on the barbie’, we’ve counted down the five reasons why we love being Australian (and why we love Aussie weddings!)
1. Location, location, location
Australia is home to some of the most spectacular places to celebrate your nuptials. Sandy beaches with crystal clear water, wineries that offer delicious local produce, cities with iconic buildings and landmarks and country towns full of charm – Australia has it all.
2. Go native
Australia is home to some of the world’s most beautiful flora and fauna. Home of the wattle, the protea, the gum-tree and of course the platypus, wombat, koala and kangaroo, there’s so many ways you can make sure your wedding has a true Australian touch.
3. Rain, hail or shine
While the weather can be quite unpredictable at times (Melbourne’s been known to have four seasons in one day and Queensland has seen some dramatic weather in recent weeks) it’s fun in the sun most months, or as the slogan says, “Beautiful one day, perfect the next”.
4. The Aussie way
Down to earth, friendly and helpful are just some of the words that have been used to describe Australians – and that was just Oprah! Aussie’s are known for their laidback style and calm, friendly nature. Although, sometimes it goes out the window when a wedding is on the cards (can anyone say Bridezilla?)
5. We are one, but we are many
It’s true: from all the lands on earth we come! From beautiful Asian-inspired nuptials with a touch of red to the big fat Greek wedding and everything in between, Australia’s multiculturalism is evident in almost every wedding we see!
Happy Australia Day!
Love Jamie, Erin and Kirstie x
