All the colours of the rainbow

In the warmer months, I wipe off that dark plum nail polish and I’m all for the bright colours! There are many beautiful shades to accompany a white dress on your wedding day, and in summer what better way to add a pop of colour to your ensemble with a bright nail polish.

Peaches, oranges, fuschia…. the options are endless. But! And this is a big but – before applying any colour to those nails, a little DIY manicure is a must. Start off with a hand scrub (you can make your own – brown sugar, olive oil and salt rocks is my fave) and rub it in thoroughly before washing off with warm water. Massage in a cuticle balm on your fingers then coat with a nourishing oil over the top. Finish with a good quality moisturizer.

What colour will you be wearing on your wedding day? Tell us in the comments section.

Wedding Style Icons: Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn is one the most revered style icons of the last century, associated with quintessential timelessness and classic elegance. And every style icon, from screen siren to princess must have a wedding to match.

While many will recall her chic ensemble in Funny Face, it was her wedding to Mel Ferrer on September 25, 1954 that captures my imagination. The couple tied the knot in Burgenstockm Switzerland in what may be the ultimate destination wedding. The bride wore a tea-length gown with satin cummerbund by Balmain. With a high button-up neckline, voluminous sleeves, elegant white gloves and a garland of flowers atop her perfectly coiffed hair, Audrey was the epitome of a demure and poised bride.

Audrey has plenty to offer when it comes to bridal inspiration donning many a wedding gown for her film roles, and swathes of elegant white dresses for premieres and parties.

Bridal Shower Themes

Did you know bridal showers date all the way back to the 1800′s? A tradition that is said to have grown out of the earlier dowry practices, bridal showers are a way for girlfriends to spoil the bride-to-be with gifts, love, laughter and well-wishes in anticipation for her big day.

Generally, the bride’s maid of honor will host the event with the help of fellow bridesmaids. The event can be anything from a tea party, outdoor garden event or cocktail stand up. Themes are quite popular too and will help with the coming together of the event. If you’re have a high-tea party, make petit four style desserts, cucumber sandwiches and ask guests to dress appropriately for the occasion.

Here are some popular themes we’re seeing at bridal showers:

High Tea

A tea party, so delicate and dainty, is the perfect option for an afternoon bridal shower.  Vintage teacup centrepieces, cucumber sandwiches, herbal tea, mini strawberry tarts, oh the list goes on… Get creative and decorate your tea party with fairy lights, heart shaped doilies and personalised tea bags.

Garden Party

Incorporate as many parts of a garden you can for a garden-themed shower. Use gardenias, fresh flowers and herbs as centrepieces placed in clear jars or pot plants. Edible flowers look great on top of shortbread cookies and crunchy vegetables and dips are delicious hors d’oeuvres.

Travel Abroad

For brides that are having a destination wedding, why not throw them a bridal shower themed inspired by their chosen destination? If your bride is traveling to France – think a Parisian theme and include french music, champagne and delicious cheese platters. If the theme of the bridal shower is purely travel – make up passport invitations for guests, use travel maps to wrap around vases as centrepieces and send out postcards as thank-you cards to guests.

With the start of summer only a few more days away, I think now is the perfect time to look at summer wedding inspiration. Summer is the perfect time to embrace a bright and bold colour scheme.

The bold colour blocking trend has really taken off in the fashion world this year and it’s showing no signs of stopping. The trend has been embraced in a big way with good reason. Bright colours ooze of fun, happiness and energy, everything that you want your big day to be filled with. Check out our cheerful colour inspiration, perfect for a summer wedding.

Turquoise, pink and orange

Totally fresh and fun, this colour combo is about as bright and bold as you can get!

Red, yellow and purple

Still bold but perhaps a little more formal, there’s something regal about deep reds, yellows and purples

Green, orange and yellow

Not just bright and beautiful, citrus colours can also be tied in with a delicious citrus menu.

Time for Brunch

For couples that are after a low-key wedding or are on a budget, an early morning reception followed by brunch is the perfect option for you. Brunch is an informal, casual and fun way to gather with family and friends to enjoy a meal before or after the official I do’s.

Advantages to having a brunch wedding reception mean that its a cheaper alternative to a sit down dinner as you are only catering for one meal. Also, if there is a popular wedding venue you are after, there is a higher chance it’ll be available in the morning.

There are plenty of delicious breakfast dishes you can have at brunch. Firstly, include the yummy hot breakfast standards like eggs, bacon, French toast and pancakes and cold delicacies such as pastries, croissants fresh fruit and yoghurt. Dishes such as breakfast burritos, Bircher muesli, zucchini and salmon fritters or mini omelettes also make for great brunch options.

Enjoy!
