How will you celebrate the royal wedding?

Tonight’s the night. At 7.51pm (AEST) Kate Middleton will step into her Rolls Royce and make the short journey from the Goring Hotel to Westminster Abbey to become Her Royal Highness Princess Catherine.

Despite the criticisms, hoopla, the discussions of Republicanism and the clash with Friday night football (especially in Victoria!) tonight Australians will gather around the TV to see a “real-life fairytale” take place. For those who aren’t “into weddings” like the Bride Magazine team, you’re probably experiencing Royal Wedding overload. But even if you watch for only a moment – just to see the frock or the kiss, it will be a moment to remember.

For those of us Gen Y’s and Xers, if you ask your parents where they were when Charles married Diana, they can probably tell you. If you ask royal watchers where they were when Mary Donaldson married Prince Frederik of Denmark, they can probably tell you. (I was getting ready for my Saturday shift as a pharmacy assistant. Ahhh, good old 2004).

So, five, 10, 15 years from now what will you tell your kids when they ask you about this royal wedding?

Tonight I’m having a royal wedding party at my house with colleagues, friends and family. We will dine on cucumber sandwiches, pork pies and sweeties while sipping Pimms and enjoy the festivities, dissecting the frock and commenting on all the finishing touches!

Make sure you check back in tonight and tomorrow for our full coverage of the royal wedding and that frock! And you can also follow me on twitter for live tweets throughout the night!

Happy Royal Wedding Day
