Bali bliss

All this cold weather of late has incited complete wanderlust from the Bride team, and it’s got us dreaming about destination weddings!

If you’ve decided to get married in the months of June, July or August, but can’t stand the idea of tying the know in the freezing weather, why not head to a tropical destination like this real-life wedding couple did.

Jacqueline and Todd decided Bali, a favourite holiday destination, would be a fantastic wedding location. “The idea of having our wedding overseas perfectly suited us and once we’d decided on Bali, it was full steam ahead,” says Jacqueline.

Embracing the tranquil beach location of their destination, Jacqueline and Todd decided on a beach theme for their nuptials, and the planners from Global Weddings set about bringing the theme to life, complete with a beautiful beach resort, the Legian Beach Hotel in Seminyak.

Jacqueline’s sister, two best friends and her brother made up the bridal party, which added another unusual touch to the destination nuptials. “Of course my brother wasn’t a traditional bridesmaid, but I didn’t subscribe to the notion that because he’s male, he should be on the groom’s side,” Jacqueline says.

The night before the big day, Jacqueline and Todd enjoyed cocktails and a barbecue with their guests at the resort, which allowed them to mix and mingle.

“The best part of a destination wedding really is the time either side of the wedding because all your friends and family are there relaxing and holidaying with you,” she says.

The day of the wedding, Jacqueline looked ravishing in her summer-inspired gown and was escorted to the ceremony on the beach by eight little Balinese girls attired in traditional Balinese dresses. Following the short, non-religious ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed a spectacular candelit cocktail reception.

“The whole experience was perfect,” says Jacqueline. “The only hiccup we had was the flowers. I had asked for a simple bouquet of hydrangeas, which someone spray-painted purple! It definitely wasn’t my taste, but everyone thought it was really funny on the day and if that was all that went wrong, I consider myself one lucky bride!”
